How I got in

Asia is somewhere I’ve never been (I’m based in London) but Singapore has a somewhat similar culture and speaks English so I knew it would be easier to adjust.

Top tips for getting accepted

Keep an open mind, I learnt a lot more about prospective opportunities and made many new connections that I would’ve have made if I wasn’t open.

Common mistakes to avoid

I would’ve spoken to my boss more as she has now become a mentor for me!

The hardest part

I’d say the first few days were hardest as you adjust to new surroundings however after I got my bearings all was well!

The best decision I made

Show that I was up to the task of doing grass roots research for a campaign venue.

What it's actually like

A typical day

I would start work at 9 and work with the team until maybe 11 when we would have a meeting. Then work on a new project a bit and submit a report to my boss. Then lunch. Then continue working on a campaign. I would finish at 6 then walk home and have dinner with some other interns.

Questions students ask Lauren

What does a typical day in your internship actually look like?
I would get to my office for 9am then finish up any work from the previous day before having a team meeting. Then we have a brief on any meetings with clients for the day. Lunch would be around 1. I often went out of the office to meet clients or work on campaigns. Otherwise I would do research for campaigns or create brochures and adverts. I would finish at the office at 6 then head to dinner with a friend.
How did you land your internship - what did the application process involve?
I sent my CV and some examples of strong writing skills to Absolute Internship and they found Flame communications interested. Next I had an interview with the CEO of Flame and it went well which secured my internship. This is then finalised with an agreement signed virtually.
What skills do you wish you had before starting that you'd tell others to prepare?
I wish I was more confident as learning on the job is easy and co workers are understanding but the confidence makes everything easier.
