I did a marketing internship at a webcomic company in Seoul, South Korea in 2025. It really opened my eyes to, not just working in a different country, but also to working in marketing. There I learned more about photoshop, storyboarding, pitching ideas to and working with a larger team.

I looked through all the cities available on the website, I knew I wanted to be in big city but some options seemed too big for me and Seoul seemed like the perfect middle ground - it was.

Top tips for getting accepted

Focus on building relationships with those you are working with. Try to make friends with those on the programme with you as soon as possible. Don’t be afraid of exploring alone.

Common mistakes to avoid

I wished I could have travelled around the country a little more, and visit other cities as well.

It can be lonely at times but there is also so much available for you to do.

What it's actually like

A typical day

In the morning I would wake up early and get to work about 08:45 - 09:00, go over the tasks for the day before heading to the daily meeting at 11:00. We would break for lunch at 12:00 where my assigned manager/team would take me and the other intern out for lunch at different restaurants around Gangnam. After lunch I would finish off any work from the morning before storyboarding new posts and pitching them to my manager, then I would work on them until 18:00 when I would finish work. After work, I would usually meet up with my roommate and we would go exploring around the city and have dinner before heading back to the hotel around 23:00.

How did you land your internship - what did the application process involve?
I originally applied for a publishing internship before deciding to change to marketing, the process of changing was very easy. After that I interviewed with two companies before interviewing at the last company, which is where I got the internship. I think the most difficult part was tailoring my CV to suit the companies, but the actual process after that was very easy!
What skills do you wish you had before starting that you'd tell others to prepare?
I wished I had had more knowledge in photoshop before I started. I had some knowledge of photoshop but in a different area then what I was using when I was there.
