How I got in

With my field of interest I was given the opportunity to choose between Paris and Madrid, with my decision ending on Madrid as I am familiar with the language and believed that would help facilitate this journey.

Top tips for getting accepted

Enter this experience with an open mind. The language, customs, food, along with everything you could imagine will be different from what you are accustomed to. However, this is what will allow you to truly work and grow your professional and personal skills.

Common mistakes to avoid

I would have signed up for a longer program as 6 weeks was nowhere near enough time for me to accomplish all that I wanted to do.

Things I wish I knew before starting

Before starting the program, I wish there were someone to tell me about the financial resources you can utilize for this program. Costs can be heavy, however, there are scholarships students can apply for and other tips to help students minimize the financial burden.

The hardest part

The hardest part was increasing my coworkers expectations regarding my abilities. Proving yourself is a difficult journey, however, I highly recommend going above and beyond with the tasks you are given to not only make your time worthwhile but also progress your own skills as these internships, for the most part, align with your future goals.

The best decision I made

The best decision I made was pushing aside the negative thoughts and diving into this experience. I was nervous about the possibility of despising my time there and not being able to accommodate myself to this new environment. However, once I looked over those thougths I was able to truly appreciate the experience and enjoy every minute I was there.

What it's actually like

A typical day

As it was August and the working environment slows down, a typical day would be me going to work from 8 am to 2pm and then enjoying the city life until night. At work, tasks were not too demanding which allowed me to take breaks and get to know my coworkers on a deeper level. After work, I was able to meet with friends and participate in different activities as there was always something new to try.

What does a typical day in your internship actually look like?
A typical day in my internship I believe reflected much of the laid back culture that Spain has. The first hour was dedicated to talking to coworkers and dividing the tasks for the day. We would work until noon where we would then spend half an hour drinking coffee and conversing. I would then spend the rest of my work hours completing any tasks I was given and meet with my supervisor who would work with me to teach me new material or revise old work.
How did you land your internship - what did the application process involve?
I landed my internship by connecting the company and its mission/purpose to my own personal and professional interests. As they shared information, I was able to tie it back to many of my past experiences to show I was interested in what they stood for as well as motivated to perform well. The application was straightforward and was facilitated by many Absolute workers such as the Ambassador I connected with.
What skills do you wish you had before starting that you'd tell others to prepare?
Before starting this internship I wish I would have familiarized myself more with the technology services or computer formats they more commonly utilize.
