My name is Ale and after my legal internship in Barcelona, I decided to switch careers to pursue my newfound passion for traveling. Since then, I have been able to travel to 3 continents while working remotely, open up a business in Puerto Escondido, Mexico where I’m now based, and inspire students.

Why Ale chose this path

ā€œI wanted to go abroad but assure that my time and money would have a high return of investment, and I thought there was nothing better than to help grow my resume in another country in the field I thought I wanted to go into.ā€

How I got in

Ever since I was little, I always wanted to go to Spain, and as a Mexican and first time travel, I thought Barcelona was the perfect city for me - beach, culture, and adventure.

Top tips for getting accepted

Get out of your comfort zone even if you don't speak the language, network well with your host company's team, and maximize all your time abroad!

Common mistakes to avoid

I would have stayed longer! Time goes by so fast when you're growing professionally and personally, and I would have also done a bit more research to spend less money.

What Ale wishes they knew

Things I wish I knew before starting

I wish I had known how much this experience was going to change my life. I never expected the outcome I had.

The hardest part

The hardest part was actually leaving Barcelona, knowing I was doing so well in my internship. It's hard to let go of something that completely changed your perspective.

The best decision I made

The best decision I made was being stubborn with my parents and saving money to do this internship, because I moved back to Mexico earlier, as I would've wanted back then, I traveled to 12 countries and more soon, I opened up a business in one of my favorite towns in my country. None of this would've been possible had I not interned abroad, because I think I would've settled for a life that was not for me or meant for me.

What it's actually like

A typical day

I would wake up early and shower, enjoy the free breakfast, take the metro to my internship, start working on administrative tasks, then accompany clients to their visa appointments, come back to the office to do some legal writing, and then leave, go explore the city, meet up with the other interns, and go back home.
